Murphy Beds at Pm Sundays in Richmond

November 24, 2019 @ 4:00 pm – 11:59 pm

Valley Stage Productions is pleased to announce that the The Murphy Beds will perform as a part of this month’s “P.M. Sundays” series on Nov. 24. The concert begins at 4:00 p.m. and will take place at the Richmond Congregational Church at 20 Church St. in Richmond. Doors are at 3:30 p.m.

Eamon O’Leary and Jefferson Hamer (aka The Murphy Beds) present traditional and original folk songs with close harmonies and deft instrumental arrangements on bouzouki, guitar and mandolin.

Jefferson and Eamon have been performing together for some years now having first met at Irish Sessions in New York City. They shared an interest in collecting, arranging and performing songs from Irish, American, Scottish and English traditions. AS they began to collaborate -first in larger ensembles – but most enduringly as a duo – they also recognized an affinity for other more contemporary idioms. Whatever the source – songs of the Irish travelers, Arkansas spirituals, or their compositions – their arrangements feature the same carefully wrought interplay of voices and strings.

“With crispy guitar licks and geographic lyrics about a wandering worker…it reminds one of Woody Guthrie’s Columbia River song series” -New New Yorker

They were recently featured in a performance at the Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage.
